On September 13, 2024, the School of Natural Sciences organized a meeting between first-year students of the program "6B05101 Biology" and representatives of the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Kazakhstan (ACBK). ACBK coordinator Enlik Kayirssynova introduced the students to the activities of the Association. ACBK research scientist and national coordinator of the "Sociable Lapwing" project, Ruslan Urazaliev, delivered a lecture on projects related to the study and conservation of birds in Kazakhstan. The project on studying the migration of sociable lapwings is implemented with funding from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (UK). The sociable lapwing is a steppe species on the verge of extinction. There are just over 11,000 individuals left in the world, with more than 95% of them nesting in Kazakhstan. As Ruslan Urazaliev explained, the birds will be equipped with satellite trackers, which will allow experts to study their migration routes and identify the key habitats necessary for the species' survival. The protection of birds is a critical task for all humanity, as they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems.

The lecture sparked great interest among the students. The lecturer presented the university library with a field guide to the birds of Kazakhstan.

At Astana International University, sports are an integral part of not only student life but also the work environment for staff members. On September 8th, AIU’s Financial Director, Almas Tynyshbayevich Sultanov, successfully completed the Half-Ironman triathlon during the Samarkand Challenge competition.

The competition consisted of three stages: a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km cycling segment, and a 21.1 km run. Almas Tynyshbayevich completed all stages with distinction, showcasing exceptional physical endurance and determination. His participation highlights the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a strong sporting spirit among staff.

This achievement serves as a great example for the AIU community, demonstrating the important role of sports in achieving both personal and professional success.

This year, Astana International University (AIU) has demonstrated significant success in educator preparation. According to the National Testing Center of Kazakhstan, AIU graduated over 400 education specialists and ranked 5th among 35 institutions in the "Educator Knowledge Assessment" (EKA).

The EKA is an independent exam designed to evaluate the qualifications of graduates in education programs, serving as a mandatory requirement for employment in the educational sector. AIU showcased a high level of academic excellence, outperforming several prominent universities across the country.

Moreover, AIU graduates in biology ranked 1st in their category among Kazakhstani universities within the EKA. This achievement was made possible by the concerted efforts of the university’s leadership and faculty.

These milestones reflect the exceptional professionalism of AIU’s Pedagogical institute and its drive to establish new benchmarks in the education field.

On September 10, 2024, Astana International University (AIU) hosted a discussion meeting on the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP). The event was attended not only by specialists in the field of ecology and energy, but also by members of the people's headquarters, who conduct explanatory work on the economic benefits of the project.

Teachers of the Pedagogical Institute also took part in this meeting, which made it possible to learn more about the benefits and harms of nuclear power plants from a social point of view. Members of the people's headquarters conducted explanatory work on the economic benefits of nuclear power plants construction, noting that nuclear power can provide a stable energy supply for many years, reducing the region's dependence on fossil fuels and creating new jobs. Experts also drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan, as one of the largest suppliers of uranium, can use this resource for the development of its energy infrastructure.

As a result of the discussion, the participants concluded that the construction of a nuclear power plant opens up wide opportunities for Kazakhstan, but requires careful analysis and responsibility in terms of ensuring environmental and Social Security.

On August 26, the Astana International Financial Center hosted a Kazakh-Chinese event dedicated to cultural and tourist cooperation! 🇰🇿🤝🇨🇳

President of Astana International University, S. Irsaliyev made a welcoming speech at the ceremony that opened this significant event.

Under the slogan “Together we are building the Silk Road, sharing a successful future,” the event brought together more than 50 representatives of state bodies, national companies, tour operators and the media from Kazakhstan and China. 🌍

The ceremony also received inspiring speeches from the cultural adviser of the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan Jiang Peng and other guests of honor. The cultural program included performances with Kazakh national songs, Chinese theatrical performances and choral numbers.

The result of the event was the launch of a comprehensive media project “Handshake of the Yellow and Caspian Seas”, which promises to strengthen cultural and tourist ties.

On August 20, 2024, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a congratulatory letter to Professor of the Higher School of Law of Astana International University Isidor Shamilovich Borchashvili.

The Head of State particularly noted the career path of Isidor Shamilovich, who went from an ordinary law enforcement officer to an outstanding scientist. This was the result of his hard work, deep knowledge and high professionalism.

The President is also stressed that Isidor Shamilovich has educated more than one generation of talented lawyers and jurists, made a significant contribution to improving national legislation and actively participates in the public life of the country.

Sultan Zhasybai, a graduate of the third incubation stream of the Business Incubator of Astana International University, won a grant for the development of the TAMGA project from «NADI «QazInnovations» JSC. The startup aims to introduce an innovative solution in the field of customs clearance, which is designed to optimize and simplify logistics processes for participants in foreign economic activity.

The TAMGA project belongs to the priority area of information and communication technologies, which includes elements of Industry 4.0, and is aimed at developing the transport and logistics industry in Kazakhstan. 

Sultan Zhasybai and his team are confident that TAMGA will become an important tool for participants in foreign economic activity, including consignees, forwarders, brokers and cargo handling terminals. The grant received will allow the project to expand its functionality and increase competitiveness in the market of Kazakhstan, as well as, in the future, to reach the international level.
