AIU Professors Present at International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Science

On May 12, 2025, the international scientific-practical conference titled “Artificial Intelligence in Natural and Mathematical Sciences: Innovations and Future Opportunities” was held at Secondary School No. 101, organized by the Department of Education of Astana city.

The aim of the seminar was to explore modern applications of artificial intelligence technologies in various fields of natural and mathematical sciences, to promote experience exchange among the scientific community, young researchers, and practitioners, to strengthen collaboration, and to pave the way for new scientific projects.

Participants included educators and researchers from Russia, Uzbekistan, the cities of Almaty and Semey, as well as from Akmola, Karaganda, Kostanay, and Mangystau regions, along with teachers of mathematics, physics, and informatics from Astana schools.

Astana International University was represented by two distinguished speakers:

🔹 Almir Askaryevich Aniyarov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, with a presentation titled “Methodology of Applying Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Teacher Education”;

🔹 Serik Amangeldinovich Nurkenov, PhD, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the “6B01505 – Physics” educational program, with a presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence in Quantum Mechanics.”

The presentations by AIU faculty members sparked significant interest and highlighted new opportunities for integrating AI into education and scientific research.

AIU Students at Republican Olympiads in Mathematics and Biology: Strong Results and Creativity Award

From April 17 to 25, 2025, Republican student subject Olympiads in various disciplines took place across Kazakhstan. Students of Astana International University (AIU) once again demonstrated a high level of preparation, commitment to academic growth, and creativity.

 

Mathematics Olympiad: AIU Among Top Teams

At the Republican Student Mathematics Olympiad held in the city of Qaskelen among 19 universities of Kazakhstan, the AIU team took 6th place in the team ranking.

  • Azhamat Serikbekov – 1st-year student, who also achieved a high personal result, ranking 8th out of 57 participants,
  • Erdaulet Aliplovanov – 1st-year student.

Biology Olympiad: "Most Creative Team" Nomination

On April 24–25, 2025, the XVII Republican Student Biology Olympiad took place at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. Although the AIU team did not win prizes in the general ranking, they were honored with a special nomination"Most Creative Team", which reflects their originality and initiative.

Another Victory for Chemists at the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad

Based on the results of the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad among students studying under the educational program group "6B012 – Chemistry Teacher Training", held by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University from April 17–18, 2025:

1.     Astana International University (AIU) took 2nd place as a team (Diploma of II degree) among 18 universities in Kazakhstan. Team members: Amadei Vladimirovich Moiseenko (2nd year) and Nurlan Muradovich Kairov (4th year).

2.     Nurlan Muradovich Kairov won 2nd place in the individual ranking (Diploma of II degree) out of 36 participants and was awarded a silver medal.

Participants also received certificates and commemorative gifts.

Analyzing the results over the past three years (2022–2025), the following can be concluded:
The AIU chemistry team participated in 5 olympiads of various levels and won a total of 7 medals for the university:

  • 3 times became prize-winners of Republican Olympiads, annually securing 2nd team and 2nd individual place, winning 3 silver medals!
  • 2 times became winners of International Olympiads, earning 2 silver and 2 bronze medals!

Special recognition goes to Nurlan Muradovich Kairov, a 4th-year student, who is a three-time silver medalist of Republican Olympiads and a bronze medalist of the III International Student Chemistry Olympiad held in Ashgabat at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, consistently demonstrating high performance every year.

Roundtable "Children's University Network of Kazakhstan: Experience Exchange and Development Prospects"

On April 23, 2025, a roundtable on the development of the Children's University Network of Kazakhstan was held at Astana International University within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference "AIU-2025: Kazakhstan and the International Educational Space: Cooperation for the Future."
The event took place in a hybrid format — in person (Astana, Building 1, Room 207) and online (via Zoom platform).

The moderator of the roundtable was Saule Kairollovna Damekova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the "Informatics" Educational Program of the Pedagogical Institute at AIU.
Participants included Saltanat Manarbekovna Bolysbekova, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor, leaders of the Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Geography departments of the Children's University of AIU, as well as Gulim Sailaubekovna Karimova, PhD, Deputy Director of the Pedagogical Institute, Head of the "English Language" Educational Program at AIU — Aliya Amangeldiyevna Akimkhanova.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Zhanna Kuanyshevna Akhmadieva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Director of the Pedagogical Institute.

Presentations at the roundtable were delivered by:
• Jolanta Rozowska, President of the European Children's Universities Network (Poland), who spoke about the development of Children's Universities in Poland;
• Liza Naviy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor at Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University (online), who discussed the organization of a Children's University in the context of global competency formation;
• Saule Kairollovna Damekova, who presented the experience of AIU's Children's University in the format of open education for children.

During the open discussion, N.N. Nurmukhanbetova, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Children's University at Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau University, emphasized the strategic shift from experimental initiatives to the systemic integration of Children's Universities into the university and regional development ecosystems.

Key areas for development were discussed: scientific elaboration of educational initiatives, project-based learning involving university students, transformation of developments into sustainable formats, and commercialization of educational products.
The participants prepared a joint statement proposing the inclusion of these areas into the strategic development plans of universities and ensuring financial support at the initial stages of project implementation.

Scientific Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The Role of Space Monitoring in Kazakhstan's Sustainable Development

On April 18, 2025, the Pedagogical Institute hosted a scientific seminar as part of the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the "Geography" educational program. The event was organized in collaboration with JSC "Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary." The seminar's speaker, Mr. Berik Kumarovich Rakhimzhanov, Director of the Spatial Data Analysis Department at JSC "National Company Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary," delivered a lecture titled "Space Monitoring in the Interests of Sustainable Economic and Environmental Development of Kazakhstan."​km.gharysh.kz+4eoportal.org+4The Astana Times+4

During the seminar, students explored real-world applications of Earth remote sensing (ERS) data obtained from KazEOSat-1, KazEOSat-2, and KazSTSat satellites in addressing practical tasks in the following areas:​The Astana Times

· Environmental protection and natural resource conservation (SDGs 13, 15);

· Sustainable agriculture (SDG 2);

· Rational land use (SDGs 11, 15);

· Monitoring of emergencies and climate change impacts (SDGs 11, 13);

· Waste management and prevention of illegal land use (SDG 12).​

Particular attention was given to:​

· Automating land use analysis using the JerInSpectr platform;

· Integrating ERS data with cadastral and environmental information systems;

· Developing the AGROSPACE platform to optimize agricultural activities and provide state support to agricultural producers.​

The seminar vividly demonstrated how space monitoring technologies and data can serve as effective tools for decision-making at various levels of governance, contributing to the achievement of national sustainable development goals.​

Spiritual Renewal Platform Dedicated to the 180th Anniversary of Abai

On April 19, 2025, the Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University, in collaboration with its branch at Secondary School No. 101 of the Astana City Akimat and with the support of the "Methodological Center" of the Department of Education of the Astana Akimat, held an international scientific-practical seminar titled “Abai's Concept of the ‘Perfect Human’ — The Guiding Principle of Kazakh Spirituality,” dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great poet, thinker, and composer Abai Qunanbaiuly.

The seminar aimed to improve teaching methods of Abai’s works, integrate his philosophical legacy into education, and foster professional exchange among innovative educators and creatively-minded students through modern technology.

Participants were welcomed by the orchestra of traditional instruments from Astana International University. The event brought together over 500 attendees, including public figures, writers, scholars, university professors, school teachers, and students.

The program included exhibitions, a PODCAST zone, a round table on “Abai’s Concept and Modern Times,” national art performances, a plenary session, and various thematic breakout sessions.

The exhibition featured items such as museum artifacts from the Bukhar Zhyrau Literature and Art Museum, methodological tools from the "Til-Qazyna" National Scientific-Practical Center, educational resources, electronic games, and national handicrafts created by teachers of visual and applied arts.

At the PODCAST platform, Abai’s direct descendant, veteran educator Laylya Mukhlysqyzy, gave an interview titled “Abai’s Legacy — A Beacon in the Memory of Generations.” Additionally, poet and Abai scholar Almakhan Mukhametkalykhyzy presented her book “Characters of ‘The Path of Abai’ and Abai.”

The round table facilitated discussions among Abai scholars on pressing issues in education and child development.

The seminar opened with a performance of “Abai’s Homeland” by traditional singer Gulmira Ayymgazyqyzy from the “Shabyt” Academy. A moving student performance titled “The Battle of Light and Dark” was followed by a choir of 180 teachers singing Abai’s “Zhelsiz tún’de zharyq ai,” joined in unison by the audience.

During the plenary session, both local and international scholars presented. Twelve seminar rooms hosted sessions across various themes: performing Abai’s music, poetry contests, artwork based on Abai’s prose, educational comic creation, pedagogical innovations, and master classes.

Participants expressed their gratitude via QR feedback, noting the high standard of the event and the enduring significance of Abai’s philosophy for Kazakh spirituality.
